Working actively in the community to provide help
and understanding with quality respite care since
1990, TRCA offers Disability Respite Services to
the Tablelands region, and also an extended catchment area from Cardwell to Cape York.

Originally under the auspices of The Sisters of Mercy, all respite programs are provided in a caring manner to eligible residents within the district.

Centre-based respite services operate out of two premises in Atherton, with the main respite service being operated from the same purpose built house since 1990. The land for this main centre, which is centrally located in Atherton, is owned by The Sisters of Mercy, whilst the building is “owned” by the Queensland Housing department. The original funding to operate some services was supplied by the Department of Families, Youth and Community Care.

Since 1995 TRCA has been registered as an incorporated body with a volunteer Board of Management. Our paid staff team is currently comprised of a fulltime Service Manager, 4 Program Coordinators, Bookkeeper and a Resource Development Officer, and of course our large team of Support Workers.

In all, TRCA employs approx 45 people at any one time, all of whom possess a thorough understanding and empathy for the local community’s respite needs.

The amazing dedication shown by these hard working, professional yet compassionate Coordinators and Support Workers, provide approximately 26,800 hours per year in quality respite care across all programs.

TRCA continues to provide quality care and is well situated to assist all Tablelands communities and surrounding district residents with the utmost care and attention in their time of need.
